Defensive Driving Blacktop – Heavy Goods Vehicle - Hindi

Course Overview

This course aims to enhance drivers’ knowledge and skills for driving safely on blacktop roads within the Sultanate of Oman.

All Oil and Gas sector personnel required to drive heavy goods vehicles in the performance of their work.

  • Valid Heavy Goods Vehicle ROP License
  • Minimum twenty-six years of age and maximum sixty years
  • Fitness to work certificate for candidates above 50, issued by an approved clinic
  • Five years of heavy vehicle driving experience
  • HSE Passport

Successful candidates will receive a certificate issued by OPAL

  • Heavy Vehicle characteristics
  • Heavy vehicle safety checks
  • Correct placement of load on the vehicle and load securing
  • Technical aspects: braking system, gearboxes and characteristics, cockpit and the function of the dials and switches
  • Coupling and uncoupling of trailers
  • Brake test
  • Axel weight and weight distribution
  • Secondary controls of a heavy vehicle: exhaust brakes, retarders, etc.
  • Dangerous goods: classes, signs, SHOC/TREM card, etc.

At the end of the training the candidate will be able to:

  • Demonstrate the specific skills need to drive a heavy vehicle
  • Explain what blind areas are and where they are on heavy vehicles
  • Explain the criticality of vehicle stability
  • Demonstrate how to conduct heavy vehicle safety checks
  • Explain how and why loads must be secured properly, and load inspection.
  • Explain the technical aspects associated with heavy vehicles
  • Explain how and why brake tests are conducted
  • Explain axel weights and weight distribution
  • Explain the secondary controls of a heavy vehicle
  • Identify the substances that are considered dangerous goods
