Milling Operations
Course Overview
The course includes an induction session to welcome and orientate the candidate, and familiarize them with the training centre, health and safety requirements and other important policies and procedures. The training consists of a mix of classroom and workshop sessions and various assessments. Upon successful completion, the candidate will gain the knowledge and understanding to enhance their existing skills to carry out the milling operations.
The course is designed for an apprentice or beginner who would like to work as a Milling Machine Operator or Maintenance Technician.
The candidate should have basic knowledge and skills in mechanical engineering or machine shop.
Upon completing the training course, candidates will be awarded a ‘Certificate of Attendance’ from NTI, attested by the Ministry of Manpower.

By the end of the module the candidate will be able to:
- Define Milling
- Identify the types of milling machine
- Identify the parts in vertical milling machine.
- Describe the working principles of milling machine (up milling and down milling)
- Identify the different work holding and tool holding devices in milling.
- Calculate the suitable cutting speed, feed rate, depth of cut and machining time appropriate to the job.
- Select the suitable cutting fluid for the job.
- Interpreting technical drawings/specifications in relation to milling.
- Describe the tool type and geometry to achieve the required specifications and for work
- Demonstrate the basic setting of job with tools and equipment
- Produce the milled components as per the drawing.
- Identify the techniques, tools and equipment to measure the machined components.
