Course Details

Compressors and Expanders

Course Overview

The course includes an induction session to welcome and orientate the candidate, and familiarize them with the training centre, health and safety requirements and other important policies and procedures. The training consists of a mix of classroom and workshop sessions and various assessments. Upon successful completion, the candidates will gain the knowledge and understanding that will go towards enhancing their existing skills to plan and carry out the basic maintenance tasks on compressors and expanders.

The course is designed for an apprentice or beginner who would like to work as a Mechanical Technician or Maintenance Technician.

The candidate should have basic knowledge and skills in mechanical engineering.

Upon completing the training course, candidates will be awarded a ‘Certificate of Attendance’ from NTI, attested by the Ministry of Manpower.

By the end of the module the candidate will be able to:

  • Identify classification/types of compressors.
  • Explain the principles of operation of the compressors and associated equipment.
  • Identify the basic maintenance procedures.
  • Demonstrate the most common faults.
  • Describe the parameters to be monitored in service to assure performance.
  • Explain the relevant start-up and shutdown procedures.
  • Explain the use of dry gas seals including component parts, mode of operation, common symptoms and causes of failure encountered on the system.
  • Identify the maintenance for compressors.

Generally, the work that the learners are undertaking on the short-courses can be quite intensive so it is important that they stay focused yet, at the same time, enjoy their experience in the centre. The centre will employ different pedagogical strategies to help achieve this and these may consist of the following although this list is not exhaustive: 1. Teacher Centred Methods • Lecture • Explanation • Demonstration • Questioning 2. Active Methods • Discussion • Group Work • Quiz • Simulations 3. Student Centred Methods • Reading • Private Study • Homework • Assignments/projects • Reports • Guided Discovery
